Close Reading
Description
Regardless of what grade level or content area you teach, close reading is an
instructional routine all teachers can incorporate to help students understand
complex texts. This session will answer the questions: What is close reading?
What are the benefits of close reading? How can close reading be implemented in
my classroom? Participants are asked to bring a few reading materials that
warrant a second or third reading, which are typically used in their classrooms.
This could be a short story, a poem, a portion of a longer text, or a section of
a textbook.
