• About Low Incidence

The Region IV Low Incidence Project is directed by a Regional Low Incidence Facilitator (R-LIF) who also coordinates the Regional-Comprehensive System of Personnel Development (R-CSPD) Project. The projects facilitate utilization of diverse and scarce resources to meet the needs of students with the most challenging needs.

The project provides special education support services to seven Special Education Cooperatives/Districts who meet monthly with the R-LIF to advise the project and coordinate activities. Low Incidence refers to a disability that occurs rarely or in low numbers.

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) requires a licensed person (or a "knowledgeable person" in a non-licensed area) in the area of the student's disability to be on that student's Individual Education Program (IEP) team. The Region IV Low Incidence Project can fulfill this requirement by supplying a licensed consultant/specialist or "knowledgeable person" for a district's team that is void in fulfilling this requirement.
