• Spelling Bee

The 2021 Region Spelling Bee was held the week of February 1st using the Scripps Online Testing Platform.   The Multi-Region State Spelling Bee was held virtually the week of February 15, 2021.  Scripps has developed an online testing platform that will allow you to administer your school spelling bee program, whether students are learning in your classrooms or remotely from their homes.  The online testing platform is now available to give you increased flexibility when administering your school's spelling bee program.

The 2020 Region Spelling Bee was held on Tuesday, February 4, 2020, at Lakes Country Service Cooperative in Fergus Falls.  Six students from the Region Spelling Bee advanced to the Multi-Region State Spelling Bee which was held Tuesday, February 18, 2020, also at Lakes Country Service Cooperative in Fergus Falls.

Before the spellers took center stage at the Multi-Region State Spelling Bee, a familiar face offered them words of wisdom; former 2009 State Spelling Bee Champion, Ryne Kisch spoke with the 2020 State Spellers and offered some encouragement before they started spelling. Read the 2009 Communicator article about Ryne Kisch here.

Congratulations to Ben. St. Hilaire, 7th grader from Saint John's Preparatory School, on winning the 2020 Multi-Region State Spelling Bee!  The Scripps National Spelling Bee is cancelled its 2020 national finals due to the ongoing concerns about the spread of the novel coronarius and uncertainty around when public gatherings would be possible or advisable.  Click here to view the statement from Scripps.

The Spelling Bee is geared to students in grades five through eight.  Each school district may once again send one student for every 1-1000 K-12 student population to the regional bee.  The fee for each Region Spelling Bee participant is $110, payable to Lakes Country Service Cooperative.  This fee is separate from the fee which is required by Scripps. If funding is an issue, we encourage you to seek funding from your local PTO or other group that supports your academic endeavors.
Your word list and official study booklet as well as other helpful materials may be accessed through the Scripps website: www.spellingbee.com.
